Thunderbolt: Apple and others adopt new I/O standard

In the wake of Apple Computer’s release of laptops that incorporate the new Thunderbolt data connection spec from Intel, a number of companies have announced support for the technology.

From a media production standpoint, it is encouraging to note that, according to both Intel press releases and the Electronista blog, Canon has announced early adoption of Thunderbolt. However it is unclear which of their cameras will get the upgrade (and whether it will be available on consumer models). VentureBeat backs up speculation that Sony and other manufacturers are expected to announce Thunderbolt adoption later this year.

With HD video cameras already producing massive file sizes and 3D technology coming into the mainstream, it will be important for more A/V manufacturers to adopt I/O technology that can support speedy file transfer.
